1) Super Healthy Smoothie Event – Get a table or stand at the local fair, farmers market, church bazaar or flea market and sell fresh in-season fruit smoothies. Have the fruit and other ingredients donated and have all your members and volunteers bring blenders. You can even have local celebrities volunteer as super smoothie makers for an easy nonprofit fundraiser!

2) Embarrass the Director Event! – Have donors and staff pay a dollar a vote, with no limit on the number of votes they can buy, to decide from a list of 5 embarrassing fates for your good natured director. Their fate could be shaving all facial hair, die hair an embarrassing color, wear a clown suit for a day, trade jobs for a day with volunteers, clean the floor of the local city hall, etc. The possibilities are endless for this easy nonprofit fundraiser and only you know what can bring in the most votes.

3) 50/50 Raffle – This is a no brainier You get a local printer to donate professional looking raffle tickets and sell chances to win for, say $1 each, with no limit to the number of tickets that can be purchased. Simply hitting publish is not the end of your work as a blog author. Today’s Content Marketing involves many steps to get noticed. With the newest standards set by Google Penguin 2, content marketing is all about link building.

SEO has evolved to the point that simply posting blogs on a timely basis is not enough, and picking just any link in a stream will hurt you rather than help you! Quality blog posts get noticed by search engines and quality back links go to quality well written blogs. Buying back links and joining random blog networks will no longer get results; in fact, these practices will hurt your total views.

A good blog in today’s on line community must give the reader real value, answer some real questions in your targeted industry. You must weave your brand into the blog but not in an overly selling’ way, give true value and honest questions and comments will be left, true back links will be generated.

Hitting that publish button begins the content marketing process, the truly time consuming part of any great blog is the time spent promoting it properly. The Publish button begins the process that content creation started, now prepare to create many more spins and entries to get your hard work noticed over the next few weeks and months.

Yes weeks and months, a well written information packed blog can still get significant hits months after being published. Let’s look at the top 10 ways to promote your blog in a process called content marketing:

1) Even before you publish make sure to optimize your post with Keywords: You should be familiar with target keyword search, and pick a keyword that relates completely to the topic the blog is related to. It is no longer advisable to use the ridiculous rules of the past few years, such as repeating the keyword or phrase so many times the blog becomes un-readable. However, a keyword or key phrase such as “content marketing” must be included in the Meta Title, Meta Data Description, H1, First Paragraph, and as anchor text (at least 4 times in the body of the blog including the last paragraph)

2) Use internal links and make at least 2 from your anchor text keyword or key phrase: What is an internal link? It is simply a hyperlink to another related blog within your own website, either a blog or page if that page contains quality information about the subject of the blog you are promoting. An example might be linking content marketing to an article about Deep Rich Data on this site. (Another advantage of this tip is if your blog is re-posted as a direct copy by another blogger, it is now linked from that location to your website!)

3) Very Important; share you post immediately to your entire social media and friends network: I use Sharebar WordPress plugin, which lets you share it to your entire reach of social media and blog sharing networks from one place right within your own blog. Remember to not only share your new master piece on LinkedIn but to every one of your groups on LinkedIn that the blog you are promoting relates to. Make sure to customize a personal message to each group and node in your network, make each group feel as if this blog was meant just for that particular group of insiders. Do not use an instant sharing service, it is easier and quicker, but the time spent on a personal line for each social media site and group is worth the effort.

4) Look for other blogs and articles covering the same topic as your unique blog and post teasers with a link back to your blog: This is where being an active member of forum communities pay off. First you can link your latest blog post to your signature on the forum and generate some clicks back to your blog. Post questions and comments on LinkedIn or Facebook group chat with links back to your blog, but make sure the blog you are linking is full of knowledge, remember the first rule of content marketing; A blog must give the reader real value, answer some real questions in a targeted industry or discipline.

5) Make sure to Syndicate your content: Many sites will re-publish your content if you give them permission and set up an RSS feed. SocialMediaToday is a great one and re-publishes many of my blogs, Business2Comunity is another that will automatically grab your newest blog from your RSS feed when you sign up and grant them permission. BuzzBlogger has a great list and lots of great instructions on how to proceed and find the right sites to syndicate your blog and advance your content marketing efforts.

6) Use Your Email list to market your blog several times: Your website should have a newsletter sign up on the home page, the landing pages and the blog page. As you build up an email list, make sure to announce each and every new blog. I suggest a thumbnail picture, hyper-linked to the blog, as well as using the rich snippets protocol and include the title, and a summary/teaser of the content an the alt link information. You want your followers to read the blog on your website; do not email the entire blog. You should also include a “CLICK HERE” to read button as well as links to your last two related blogs. Try to have some personal message to your followers included in the email, as well as an the email newsletter update section and have a sign up your friends entry form for good measure.

7) Make it a point to Bookmark your blog: This should be done as soon as you publish your blog, and can be done through the aforementioned Sharebar plugin for wordpress, or any number of programs or just go to each site manually. There is an even greater reason, make sure to URL link each picture to your blog, and share to Pinterest, then make sure the URL link directs whoever clicks on the pictures to you specific blog. Within Pinterest, SEO the caption of the picture to the keyword of the blog. Finally share the picture back to Flicker, re-pin to other users Pinterest sites as well as any other picture sharing service you find such as flicker and Facebook.

9) Use your content marketing efforts to create additional pieces of content: Spin the content for another blog site, make it similar but totally re-written. If the blog is newsworthy, cut it way down in size, keeping “just the facts” and turn it into a Press Release, free on line submission services such as PRWeb are a great place to start. Expand the blog into a full on article with larger pictures and formatted into a magazine style, submit it to article sharing sites and submit to on-line magazines covering subjects relating to the blog. If the blog proves extremely popular you may want to re-purpose into a much longer and more thorough white paper. Finally, consider turning the blog into an info-graphic.

10) Comment on other related blog posts and ask other bloggers to share your post: Part of Content Marketing is to share your knowledge with others looking for what you have to say. What better place than other blogs covering related topics, reach out to other bloggers and try to get them to post your blog on their site (with your back links in place) and agree to do the same in exchange.

This may seem a lot harder than going to Fiverr and buying 300 back links, however those days are gone dead and buried. The reality of 2013 is to get attention from the search engines you must use content marketing. Think about it, isn’t that the way we all want it? How many times have you searched for, let’s say, how to add a link to my blog and gotten “Hi, I have a Rolls Royce, buy my system and you will have all the back links in the world”.

The reality is that Google, Bing and Yahoo are trying to make the internet search process better for the knowledge seeker. Try a little research today; I think you will find it a bit more accurate, or at least a bit less spammy than last year.

Remember, agree or disagree, Content Marketing is now a reality, try some of these ideas and see if you don’t get a lot more traffic for your new blog. I don’t have a Rolls Royce, but I am giving value and real usable knowledge, that’s what it is really all about.

How to Promote the Right Video to Viral Video Status

I was asked how a video is made to go viral and if it is possible to truly cause “Viral” to happen with any video. I gave the following answer:

“That is what we do, but to “any” video, no. There are many limits and challenges that factor into a video going viral.” Said Dr. Thomas R. Reich who developed The Deep Rich Data System which incorporates Twitter, Pinterest, videos, blogs and other factors.

Here are some examples of viral videos we have promoted successfully:

Barter Rewards (George Bush Sells Barter) on YouTube called “21st Century Trade Exchange.”

This video was great, but had only 311 views in 4 months when started promoting it 2 months ago. Look it up now it has 448,772 views as of this date.

Example 2 for Sony/Red; Jimmie Van Zant had only 2200 views on his new video “Unfinished Life” (He is part of the Lynyrd Skynard Family) I started promoting it last month and as of today it has 613,045 views, as well as an alternative posting that received over 140,000 views from the search hits it got because of the promo on the main Sony/Red posting, totaling almost 800,000 views on the same video.

Going Viral is not possible without some added views, this is simply part of the process of going viral, but it also requires national linked press releases, full social media support, and the video must be good, watchable and “hooky”. I am always interested in seeing what video project looks like before I even consider taking them on for

promotion. We aren’t talking about production value or high dollar videos, but length, look and

the fun factor.

If you check my LinkedIn background, you will see I am a very savvy old school promoter, 67

gold and Platinum Records from the old days, combined with top social media and internet experience today, I love to promote and that is the difference we have here.

That said, never put preconditions on viral video promotion, just as in record charting some tricks must be used, but as you can see the Van Zant video, it is monetized and “bot” views will not work in those postings. Also remember if more than 5-7% of views on a video are “bot” or click through views, YouTube suspends the video and drops the views from the total.

I do not know of any viral video that has 100% established fans or target market members viewing the content. This is part of the nature of “Viral Videos”, driving far more traffic to a video than would normally go to that video. If promoted correctly, the process results in picking up new fans of the video, or even the product it is promoting, who would not have seen the video and what it represents otherwise. This process is not unlike a paid ad on TV or Radio getting it into the “stream” of hip videos to watch, is the trick to viral.

The content must grab the attention of the viewer to keep them longer than 10 or 15 seconds. This is the nature of YouTube, expect that viewers have short attention spans. That said, have the message front weighted in the video, and make it as short as possible, minimum of 30 seconds to a maximum 90 seconds for a business video, music should be no longer than 3 min, if you expect a shot at a viral video.

is from a known artist, it is a great song and the video itself is appealing. “Unfinished Life” had a bit of controversy which always helps (all news is good news in promotions), naturally we created the controversy, and that controversy started the attention and its path towards a viral video. When fans old and new clicked on “Unfinished Life” they stayed on it in large numbers. Many did not stay long, but this is the way it is with any music video. People (viewers) click on winners, the higher the traffic the higher in the search results and the higher the click rate of viewers looking for something new, but you will never see 100% full views ever in my experience!

The George Bush Parody for Barter Rewards was a different animal all together. Viral for corporate pieces is much harder, it was a 32 second advertisement for Barter services after all, but this video was different. It had the #1 Bush Impersonator John C Morgan featured in the video and he is not only spot on, but has the support of the Bush family, as well as many key politicians in general. He did such a good job on this one, you think it is George W. Bush! The Video is legitimately high quality and well written; the subtle jokes are so well placed you have to watch 3 or 4 times to really take it all in. After seeing it you want to show it to everyone in the office, Democrats

think it is funny in a bad way, Republicans in a good way, and Jeb Bush actually commented he loved it! This was a Viral Video in the truest sense of the word, it was an unexpected big hit, and was an unpaid advertisement in today’s pay per click world!

Here you have seen two examples of the kinds of videos that can go viral, but the trick is to bring the right video together with the right promoter, only than the

alchemy of “Viral Video” can happen.

10 Essentials for a Successful, Well Represented LinkedIn Site

1) Always upload a professional looking picture. LinkedIn represents a company’s owner, not the company itself, so a logo or picture of an office is not acceptable. Not having a picture is a definite drawback to being well represented on LinkedIn. Create an accurate and quality representation of yourself. It is not necessary for you to be in executive clothing. For example, if you run a construction company, a good picture of you would include you in typical workplace attire. Make adjustments to what is needed for your specific field.

2) It is important, at least in the beginning, to contact only those people you know on LinkedIn. LinkedIn closely monitors the first few months and you should only ask for connections with those you know personally. Later, you can grow your network to those that are in similar positions or positions you would like to know more about. However, do not over follow. You want your network to stand for what you stand for in order to have a well represented LinkedIn site.

3) It is important to update your profile at least once a week. First of all, you want your LinkedIn to be fully up to date at all times. This is your living online résumé; potential clients as well as employers will expect it to be fully up to date. Secondly, anything you have updated on LinkedIn is sent to all of your followers weekly. This is a sort of free email news letter if you plan it correctly.

4) If you get constant messages or spam from one LinkedIn member, delete them. LinkedIn, just like any social media site has its share of those who abuse the system. But LinkedIn gives you the tools to cut off spammers; take advantage of those tools.

5) Your summary is your elevator speech. It is your response to someone virtually asking, “Tell me about yourself.” Spend some real time on this summary, work on the title, and be concise without rambling. It is best to review this summary with several professional friends until you get a great one. A well represented LinkedIn site will tell me about your professional life.

6) Remember, LinkedIn is definitely not Facebook or Twitter. Do not relate personal updates about you private life. If it is appropriate news to talk about over a cubical wall in a crowded office, then it is appropriate for LinkedIn. A well represented LinkedIn site is all about the business you are in and why you are the best at what you do; do not complicate things with personal data.

7) Do not use the tools Twitter gives you to connect to LinkedIn. You do not want to post every twitter post to your LinkedIn updates. However, connecting LinkedIn to Twitter can be good since Twitter likes an overload of information. A successful and well represented LinkedIn site does not overload your connections with every Tweet of the day. A properly run LinkedIn site gives just enough information to highlight you and your business.

8) Be very careful when declining an invitation as it could come back to haunt you later. If the request is from someone in a similar business or in a position of respect, you should either accept or archive the invite for later when you may run across the person and want to connect. A well represented LinkedIn site will become popular; accept the complement in most cases and grow your network.

9) Do not ask everyone for a recommendation. Make sure the recommendation is coming from someone who knows you and will give a positive and glowing review. Remember, in order for your well represented LinkedIn site to become 100% complete, you must have at least 2 recommendations. The more quality recommendations built over time, the better, but get 2 right away. Your LinkedIn site must reach 100% to be able to fully take advantage of all LinkedIn advantages.

10) Spell check is not enough. Many individuals have spelling errors in almost every email they send; even the NY Times has several spelling errors a day, but not on LinkedIn. Have everything you post on LinkedIn checked and rechecked. LinkedIn is all business; spelling and grammar matter. A well represented LinkedIn site is letter-perfect.
